One of my favorites:
Play an Eminor chord with no beat. Have the student play each note of the chromatic scale, on the first string. Have them notice the relationship of the note to the chord. The student should rate each note as a "green light", "yellow light" or "red light". Have them remember the ratings and do an improvisation on one string.
